The theme of the May 2018 Los Angeles FEEDBACK Film Festival was “Dreams and Reality”. Every single film was about a world that wasn’t totally real. No film was grounded in reality.

This was our 6th straight month showcasing the best of short films from around the world on the 1st Thursday at the LA LIVE Regal Cinemas in downtown Los Angeles. The experiment of doing these festivals here has worked. Slowly we are building a solid crowd of regulars to go with the new people entering our festival world month by month.

I am still trying to master the understanding of the LA audience. This city is the center of storytelling and filmmaking, so generally our audience is going to be a part of that industry. People move to Los Angeles to work in the movies and television. So it’s different than our Toronto festival where we have mostly film fans than film people in the audience. With that you’re going to get a new type of moderation.

The MVP of the festival is our former volunteer and now resident editor Kimberly Villarruel. She travels the longest to get to the festival and has to handle the LA highway grind. She’s always positive and the audience loves her (she’s in the video handing the mic to the audience). She’s doesn’t need to work the festival anymore because she has a job with us editing the screenplay festival readings. But each month though she ventures to help out willing to do anything to make the festival better. This type of personality will serve her well and I’m certain there is a bright future ahead of her.

See you at the festivals.
