Director Biography – Jedi Kang (CREATION)

Born in America raised in Korea, stuck in between cultures and named after my dad’s favorite fictional profession (Jedi), somehow I feel that filmmaking is my calling but realistically I am giving things too much meaning. Just a Korean American ex military (Korean Army cook…) current media studies student in Buffalo, NY.

Director Statement

As a university student trying to make short films in a social distancing era, I found it very challenging to get actors. So I decided to film myself and reflect on my current situation of being a wanna be film maker. The main theme of this short is the self portrait with a monkey inside my head. I feel strongly that my process of coming up with an idea for a film is very much like a monkey throwing feces on a wall. To portray the creative process I became the locked monkey in my head until I could come up with a usable idea. Somewhat fictional somewhat documentary, this is my life as a beginner student filmmaker.
